Body Parts Harvesting
Body parts harvesting is an emotional issue; from reports of the Chinese government using organs from executed prisoners to allegations of the U.S. Army harvesting and selling body parts of Iraqis.
It should be noted that the report of the army selling parts is unsubstantiated and based only on European "secret reports". The allegations about the Chinese were made by a Chinese doctor, Wang Guoqi, during testimony to U.S. lawmakers in 2001. The Chinese government said Wang was lying and called his claims about body parts harvestng "vicious slander against China".
Harvesting body parts for tansplantation in the U.S. is legal under most circumstances, but the trafficking of harvested body parts is not. Legally donated tissue from body parts must undergo rigorous testing to ensure it is free of transmittable diseases.
Tissue for transplantation is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration.
